Bernard Arthur Backes, age 59, Bowler,
town of Seneca, died Tuesday, December 30, 1986 at his home.
He was born February 22, 1927, in
the town of Mukwa, Waupaca County, the son of the late William
and
Mary (Morgan) Backes.
On July 6, 1948 Bernard was united
in marriage to Donna Behm in New London. She survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors
include four sons, Michael (Alice) Backes, Appleton, David (Pamela)
Backes, Daniel Backes and Timothy
(Sharon) Backes, all of Birnamwood; three daughters, Christine
(Roger) Breske, Wittenberg, Patricia (Michael) Jahner, Kaukauna
and Mary (Christopher) Willcome, Birnamwood; three brothers,
Morgan Backes, New London, Cyril Backes, Green Bay and Ronald
Backes, Chula Vista, CA; six sisters, Margaret Karuhn, Wautoma,
Helen Smerling, El Cajon, CA, Gertrude (Russell) Wolf, Coleman,
Evelyn (Lee) Loughran, Sarasota, FL, Mary (Lawrence) Rohloff,
Royalton and Rita Denissen, Green Bay; and 13 grandchildren.
Bernard was preceded in death by
his parents and one brother, Gary.
Funeral services were held January
2, 1987 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood. The Rev.
Donald Laux officiated. Interment
was in the parish cemetery.
