ST. PAUL -- Bernice L. Hellwege, 75, of St. Paul died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at the Heritage Living Center in
St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 A.M. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery in Worms. Memorial
services will follow at 11 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Robert Paulson will officiate. Mrs. Hellwege was cremated. Jacobsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation, although the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at Christ
Lutheran Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Christ Lutheran Church annex fund or to St. Francis hospice.
Mrs. Hellwege was born May 4, 1924, at Worms to John and Erna (Niemoth) Helzer. She was raised in
Worms and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1943.
She married Dale Hellwege on Dec. 21, 1947, in Worms. They farmed near St. Libory. Mr. Hellwege
died on May 10, 1972. Mrs. Hellwege moved to St. Paul, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She worked various jobs, predominately as a caregiver, until 1995.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the Jolly Wives Card Club.
Survivors include three sons, Craig of Lincoln, Randy of Grand Island and Patrick of Lincoln; a daughter,
Nancy (Mrs. John) Forbes of Palmer; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Vi Helzer of Los Angeles, Calif. and Shirley Helzer of San Francisco, Calif.
