Ellis Island became the processing center
The Great Hall, housed within the main structure, was where millions of immigrants waited to be processed. The structure, as we all know it, was opened in 1900, after the original building was destroyed by fire. Today, the structure contains within it an Immigrant Museum and on the grounds also an American Immigrant Wall of Honor. To see vintage photo images of Ellis Island, click below.
