Windermere

Windermere is England's largest, and one of its most popular lakes. It is 10.5 miles long and approx 1 mile wide. The water of the lake reaches a depth of around 220 feet, The lake is extremely popular with water sports enthusiasts as well as walkers who come to enjoy the scenic walks around this beautiful lake, There is a ferry service that runs the length of the lake , and you can also hire boats (motor or rowing). In fact around Windermere you will find something for everyone - fishing, boating, spectacular walks and views, historic buildings, horse riding, and more

  this is a lovely quiet spot to sit and soak up the scenery

we then drove down to the southern end of Windermere and had a break at Newby Bridge where the river Leven feeds into the lake-the bridge was built in 1651

then down a country lane to Lakeside and the Haverthwaite Steam Railway
