Hawes , Skipton and surrounding areas in the Yorkshire Dales
The "capital" of Upper Wensleydale is Hawes, Yorkshire's highest market town and farming community which lies in the path of the Pennine Way. Not only is it famous for its picture postcard appeal, but also as the home of Wensleydale cheeses - the most delicious cheeses to be made in Britain and Hawes is also known for the ancient art of rope making, a craft which has been passed down from generation to generation
Skipton is an attractive market town serving a large rural area. It is situated in the Aire gap separating the Craven limestone Dales to the north, the gritstone moors to the south, and the pastoral Ribble valley to the west. Just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park boundary, Skipton prides itself on being 'The Gateway to the Dales'.
Masham is a market town on the edge of Nidderdale It is a centre for Yorkshire Ale. Two acclaimed Yorkshire brewereis are located here - Black Sheep and Theakstons. Both breweries offer guided tours, with on-site shops and plenty of opportunity to sample their fine Yorkshire real ale. Other events in Masham include the Sheep Fair.
West Tanfield
is a village in North Yorkshire about 6 miles north of Ripon on
the A6108, which goes from Ripon into Wensleydale, West Tanfield
is on the edge of both the Yorkshire Dales and the Vale of York.
It is well known as one of the most picturesque villages in
Yorkshire, the view from the bridge over the River Ure is popular
amongst tourists, photographers and artists and fly fishermen.
