Lynda, like me, is
English, but she has lived in Australia for over
thirty years .We originally met online over five
years ago through an internet group we both used
to belong to and amazingly discovered we had
lived very close to each other in the same suburb
of London in the period I lived in London in the
60s ....I met her for the first time `in the
flesh` last year when I was on holiday in
Australia when she and her husband Bill spent a
day at my sisters home in Queensland ..
heres a picture of us
together in Australia
This year she and Bill
came over to England for a holiday visiting
family and friends in the south of England and I
was delighted when she made the trip up north to
my part of England to visit me.........heres
pictures of our day together
The day Lynda visited
was very cold with temperatures below average at
8C with a brisk east wind coming off the North
Sea and the forecast was for rain so in the
morning we took them to Durham, a World Heritage
site, a few miles from our home and visited the
ancient Cathedral - the building was started in
1093 and largely completed in 40 years
here we are outside
Durham Castle across the Palace Green from the
Cathedral
We came home and had a
light lunch and, as the skies cleared, we decided
to visit another icon of the North East near our
home - the Angel of the North statue
There is a small
plaque beside the statue stating it is the worlds
most viewed statue which surprised me and Lynda
and Bill agreed with us saying they didnt like
the statue and the wings reminded us all of
aeroplane wings
We then decided to
head for Blyth, the original home of another
mutual online friend of both of us, Geoff, who
has resided in Canada for nearly fifty years and
who Les and I visited in Vancouver whilst on a
visit to Canada/USA in 2006.....
I spotted this old
church and recognised it from a picture on Geoffs
website
so then Lynda and I
had our photo taken in front of it.......we then
had a walk along the seafront and spotted the
lighthouse where Geoffs Grandfather was
Lighthouse keeper so posed in front of that too.
I took this picture on
the seafront and later discovered Geoff walked
along this prom every Sunday on his way to Church
after visiting Blyth
we headed for Seaton Sluice a very pretty spot
just outside Blyth
we then approached
Tynemouth and decided to stop beside the ruins of
the Priory and castle on a headland above the
estuary of the River Tyne- the Priory was founded
early in the 7th century
After a busy but
enjoyable day we headed for home
and on the way we had
a lovely meal together in a pub near Penshaw
Monument and
afterwards Lynda and
Bill came back and had a coffee at our place to
round off the day
