THE 2003 REUNION

VAL FROM `GEORDIELAND , SHEILA FROM GLASGOW SCOTLAND, GILL FROM DOVER KENT AND GERRI FROM LIVERPOOL

We made friends with each other way back in the so called swinging 60s in London when we left our home towns in different parts of the UK and moved down to London to work in various Government departments of the Civil Service. We put up with the bare tiny rooms we had in the hostel we were placed in with its tiny one bar electric fire to heat the room where we practically froze if we sat there during the winter months....and we woke up in the mornings to see the windows iced up with delicate white lacy patterns ....Remember that first bad winter 62/63 when the ground was covered in snow from Dec to April and even Gill couldnt get home to Kent for breaks at home because the trains couldnt run?....and that dense soup smog where you couldnt see a foot in front of you that December and policemen were walking in front of buses with a flame to guide the buses ? We managed to eke out our monthly wage to just make it til next pay day without starving.......we survived!! We even had money sometimes to buy a minidress with a hemline up to our ears which scandalised our mothers..We had happy times, we had sad times but our friendship endured even after, one by one, we left London and returned home, we all got married, most have had children and now grandchildren but over the years we have kept in touch. For years we have said we really must have a grand reunion but family responsibilities always seemed to get in the way. This year we finally made it!! It was as if the years had rolled away and we were back to being those single girls back in the 60s again.....it felt as if we had only seen each other yesterday and we laughed til we ached recalling stories of some of the things we did all those years ago...we caught up with all our family news..discovered Gerrie is an authoress and had her book published......we laughed at old photos .....it was GREAT !!! We now plan to NOT leave it for another 40 years before we all meet up again......how about next year...in London..right girls ??
