The tanker SCOTTISH MAIDEN, Capt.
J. W. Gibson, was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine by U.99 in 54.36N 14.23W, on voyage HX83 Curacao to
Avonmouth, with fuel oil and diesel, in the
North Atlantic on November 5th, 1940. Sixteen men were killed. Capt. Gibson was
among the 28 survivors.
