John was buried on 8 December 1907 at Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart (WES J 34).  The funeral was private.  His tombstone inscription reads:

Death

John died on 6 December 1907 in Hobart in his 84th year.  His death notice in The Mercury of 7 Dec 1907 read:

TIBBALLS – On December 6, 1907, at his residence 212 Melville Street, John, beloved husband of Harriett Tibballs, in the 84th year of his age.  Native of Leicestershire, England.  Funeral private.

Immigration

John emigrated from London, England with his wife and 8 children per Antipodes.

John stated that his family were sent out by Lady HERBERT through the family colonization society and that the decline in his trade did cause him to emigrate.  He brought with him a letter for the Bishop of Tasmania from Reverend W BELLAIRS, Rector of Bedworth.  Note that the name ‘Bellairs’ was given to their first child born in Hobart.

Marriage

John TIBBALLS married Harriet WEST on 5 August 1844 in the Parish of Exhall, Warwickshire, England in the Church of England by Rev William THICKENS.  Their golden wedding anniversary notice in The Mercury of 6 Aug 1894 read:

TIBBALLS–WEST – On August 5, 1844, at Exhall Church near Coventry, Warwickshire, England, by the Rev. W. Thicken, John Tibballs to Harriet West.  Golden Wedding.  Home papers please copy.

Their diamond wedding anniversary notice in The Mercury of 6 Aug 1904 read:

TIBBALLS–WEST – On August 5, 1844, in the Parish of Exhall, Warwickshire, Church of England, by the Rev. Wm. Thickens, John Tibballs to Harriet West.

Siblings

Philip, John's youngest brother, according to his baptismal record, was illegitimate.  He was baptised on 14 September 1828, 1 year and 8 months after the death of John's father, Stephen.
