Dorcas was buried on 5 February 1930 at Cornelian Bay Cemetery in the same plot as her parents and brother Henry Malcolm.  However, she is not listed on the headstone.  The tombstone inscription reads:

beloved son of

born in Warwickshire, England
4th Sep. 1852, died 22nd Feb. 1878
Yea though I walk through the valley of the

Death

Dorcas died on 4 February 1930 at the Infirmary, Hobart.  She was aged 79 years.  Her death notice in The Mercury of 5 Feb 1930 read:

QUAYLE – On February 4, 1930, at Hobart, Dorcas Harriett Quayle, loved mother of Mrs H S Reid, 34 Carlton Street, New Town, and loved daughter of the late John and Harriett Tibballs, Warwickshire, England, aged 79 years.

Immigration

Dorcas emigrated from London, England with her parents and 7 eldest siblings per Antipodes, departing London on 11 July 1861.  They arrived in Launceston on 19 October 1861.  Dorcas was aged 10 years.

Marriage

James QUAYLE married Dorcas Harriet TIBBALLS on 13 December 1870 in a private house at Mansfield, Victoria.  James was a bachelor and a labourer, aged 24 years.  Dorcas was a spinster aged 21 years.  They were married by license according to the forms of the Presbyterian Church by Robert Winston SMITH.

Witnesses to the marriage were Charles BARCLAY (?) and Ann A RATCLIFF (?).

Occupations

According to family oral history (Pamela Jean DAVIS), Dorcas ran a boarding house.  She used to sit out on the verandah smoking a clay pipe.  

In the 1906 Tasmania Post Office Directory, Mrs D QUAYLE is listed as running a boarding house at 52 Montpelier Retreat, Hobart.
