DeathJohn must have died prior to 1822 as at the time of the 1822 muster, his wife Catharine was listed as the wife of J HORBER (Thomas HARBOUR). MarriageJohn and Catharine were married by Banns at St Phillip's Church, Sydney Cove on Christmas Day 1803. The name of John's ship, if he was a convict, was not given. ArmyJohn enlisted in the army in 1791 and arrived in New South Wales on the Pitt in 1792. He was aged 21. After arrival, he transferred to the 102nd Regiment (NSW Corps) and served under Colonel Paterson. John went as a private with Colonel Paterson to establish a settlement at Port Dalrymple in 1804 arriving on 11 November 1804. John's wife, Catherine RILEY, sailed with their two children—Elizabeth and Sophia—on board the Buffalo which Mrs Elizabeth Paterson, embarking at Sydney on 23 March 1805 and arriving at Port Dalrymple on 4 April 1805. John left Port Dalrymple for Sydney on the Trial in March 1810. It is unclear if his family left with him or at a later date. |
