ImmigrationIt is likely that Ann arrived per Royal Saxon to Launceston from London via Cork on 22 November 1842 as a bounty immigrant. She was aged 24 years, a domestic servant and unmarried. The date of application for bounty was 28 November 1842. The applicant was Mr TOWNS of Launceston. The bounty payable to applicant was £18 with the Master (Alexander JAMIESON) receiving 3/-, the surgeon (Robert JOHNSTON) 10/-, the first mate (William HARGRAVE) 1/6, the second mate (John GREIG) 1/-, and the third mate 1/-. Adam RIDDLE of Launceston was listed as the owner of the ship. The agents in the Colony were W M ORR of Old Wharf, TAS. Ann, who was unmarried, was employed by Major WALSH as a domestic servant. She received 14 shillings per annum, including board and lodgings. (reference) MarriageHenry Thomas HINGSTON married Ann Sarah Maria BANNISTER on 30 December 1843 at the Wesleyan Chapel in Longford. They were married by license by Minister Henry H GAUD. Henry was a bachelor aged 23 years. Ann was a spinster aged 24 years. On their marriage license application, Henry and Ann were both listed as being free. They were married according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England and the Wesleyan Society. witnesses to the marriage were Francis FRENCH [Henry's sister’s father-in-law] and James HINGSTON [Henry's father]. |
