DeathSusannah died on 7 September 1844 in Launceston aged 53 years. She died of inflammation of the lungs. Her son Robert (who was living at Enfield) registered her death two days later on 9 September 1844. Robert was illiterate as he made his mark (X) on her death certificate. Doing the TimeSusannah arrived in Van Diemen’s Land from Sydney sometime between 1807 and 1811 subsequently being assigned in the Port Dalrymple area. She was listed as being a resident in the County of Cornwall at the 1811 muster, taken at Port Dalrymple on 30 June 1811. MarriageRobert BEAMS married Susannah BRELSFORD at St John’s Church, Launceston on 4 March 1811. They were married by Banns by Robert KNOPWOOD. This was only the seventh marriage performed in the north of the Van Diemen's Land! Witnesses to the marriage were W HENRY and Js MACCONNELL. Both Robert and Susannah were single at the time of the marriage and living in Launceston. TrialSusannah was tried at the Newcastle Assizes on 16 July 1806. She was found guilty of the theft of wearing apparel and sentenced to 7 years transportation. |
