Birth

Christopher was born on 27 August 1879 at Campbell Town to Joseph Davies and Mary Ann Fisher.  The informant was J. DAVIS, father, of "Barton", River Isis. His birth was registered on 8 September 1879.

Burial

Christopher was buried in October 1965 at St Luke's Anglican Church cemetery, Campbell Town.  His wife was later buried with him.  He was buried by Reverend L E DANDO.  The tombstone inscription reads:

Community Life

An article in The Examiner read:

Mr. Chris Davis of Ross, who has been a well-known administrator of football in the Midlands for the past 60 years, was 83 yesterday.  Mr. Davis has a long record as a football administrator in the Ross club, having been chairman for more than 40 years and a committeeman for 60 years.  He has missed only two meetings in his membership, and takes a keen interest in the game, rarely missing a match.  Mr. Davis is also a past chairman of the Ross Parents’ and Friends’ Association and an office bearer in the hockey and rifle clubs. 

Notes in Bligh (1986, p58) read:

Midge's fatherChris Williamwas born near Campbell Town and lived in the Ross district all his life. He gave almost a life time of service to community work. He was the chairman of the Ross football club for 35 years, member of the committee for 52 years, and gatekeeper for 50 years and up until he died in the Campbell Town hospital when he was 86.

Midge was Muriel Christina DAVIS.

Marriage

Christopher William DAVIS married Elizabeth Esther JENKINS on 9 November 1903.  They were married by Thomas MCDOWELL at St Lukes Anglican Church, Campbell Town by license according to the usages of the Church of England. 

Christopher was aged 24 years, a bachelor of the district of Campbell Town.  Elizabeth was aged 18 years, a spinster of Campbell Town.  Witnesses were Rachel DAVIES (Christopher’s sister) and Caroline JENKINS (Elizabeth’s mother).

Will of Mr C W Davis, dated 9 August 1963, prepared by Clyde Gibson and Co., Solicitors, Oatlands.

THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me CHRISTOPHER WILLIAM DAVIS of Ross in Tasmania Pensioner.

  1. I HEREBY REVOKE all former Wills codicils and other testamentary dispositions made by me and declare this to be my last Will.

  2. I APPOINT my two sons ERIC STANLEY DAVIS of Campbell Town in Tasmania and ROBERT JENKS DAVIS of Ross aforesaid to be executors and trustees of this my Will.

  3. IF my wife ELIZABETH ESTHER DAVIS shall be proved to have survived me for the space of one month then but not otherwise I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate to her absolutely.

  4. IF my said wife shall not be proved to have survived me for the period aforesaid then I DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all my estate both real an dpersonal CWD to my children George Davis, Muriel Campbell, Victor Davis, Raymond Davis, Hector Davis, the said Eric Stanley Davis, the said Robert Jenkins Davis, Rhonda Hay, Reginald Davis, Rex Davis, and Geoffrey Davis as tenants in common in equal shares.

  5. I DECLARE that should any child of mine die in my lifetime or shall survive me and die before attaining a vested interest in my estate leaving issue then such issue shall take and if more than one in equal shares the share which his her or their parent would have taken had such parent survived me to attain a vested interest.

IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand this Ninth day of August One Thousand nine hundred and sixty three.

SIGNED by the said CHRISTOPHER WILLIAM DAVIS as and for his last Will in the presence of us both being present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
