William C. Everett's War of 1812 Affidavit of Service

    On this 15th day of January A.D. 1873, personally appeared before me John S. Swope a Notary Public within and for the county and state aforesaid William C. Everitt a resident of the county of Scott State of Indiana who I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit who being duly sworn according to law declares that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military Service of the United States in the war of 1812 that he is the identical William C. Everitt who enlisted in Capt. Clem Shacklefords company 42st Regiment Va. volunteers at Richmond Court House Va. in the spring of 1813 done service along the Potomac river was stationed at Thurman Court House marched to Dumfries and Alexandria State of Virginia afterward joined a rifle company commanded by Capt. F. G. Tibbs and was stationed at Farnham Church Va. near the Rappahanoc river and was at Alexandria when the British attacked Fort White on the Potomac river - He further declares that he does not remember the number of his land warrant and has no means of obtaining the same having sold said warrant soon after obtaining them from the government the party to whom they were sold towit Dr. S. S. Beach is now residing in the State of Georgia.

    Also personally appeared Edward M. Swope and James T. Furnish persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn say they were present and saw William C. Everitt who filed the foregoing affidavit make his mark to the same that they have every reason to believe from their acquaintance with him that he is the identical person he represents himself to be.

    Sworn to and subscribed before me this 15th day of January A.D. 1873 and I hereby certify that the contents of the declaration &.c. were fully made known and explained  to the affiant and witnesses before swearing.
