Under the Wheels to Death
The Fate of Thomas Cole
Last Friday morning Thomas Cole, of this place, met with death under the wheels of a freight train. He got on the through freight at this place to go to Jeffersonville in charge of a car of stock, and when below "Slate cut" and near Hausdale station he started to walk over the train and by some cause he fell between two cars and was instantly killed. His body was taken to Jeffersonville where the coroner held an inquest. The remains were brought here Saturday morning and taken to the residence of Edward Everitt, with whom the poor, unfortunate young man had made his home for several years. The remains were interred at the Everitt cemetery near Vienna on Sunday.
There was no better-hearted fellow than Tom Cole; though quick tempered he was as quick to relent, and no one could remain his enemy - he had no enemies. His sad and unexpected death brings a sorrowful though to all who (knew) him. He was 33 years of age.
