Vienna (Intended for last week):  Miss Sallie Everitt, who is attending school at Indianapolis, is spending the holidays with her parents here.

Carter Everitt visited his brother, Fred, at Ft. Thomas, Ky., Sunday.  Fred is learning to be an army cook and expects to be transferred to Ft. Riley, Kan., soon.

January 9
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Renn, Mrs. Margott Morgan and daughter, Miss Florence, of Jeffersonville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Renn, of New Albany, visited Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Everitt, Sunday.

D. M. Hougland, Emmett Everitt and Henry Everitt, of this place; J. S. Morgan and Ivan Morgan, of Austin, will appear in Federal Court at Indianapolis today to answer indictments.  Henry Everitt is charged with violation of the Federal law in shipping quail and is an outcome of the same occurrence for which he paid fines here and at Louisville more than a year ago.  The other men are owners of the Scottsburg and Austin Canning Companies, which are charged with violation of the pure food laws in shipping misbranded goods.

January 16
In Federal Court at Indianapolis last week the Rider Packing Company, of Crothersville; Joseph S. Morgan of Austin and the Scottsburg Canning Company were each fined $100 for violation of the pure food laws.  Henry Everitt, of this place, was fined $10 on a plea of guilty to shipping quail in violation of the law.

Emmett Everitt has purchased a new Lexington auto.  D. M. Hougland and W. T. Hougland have each purchased new Stutz machines.

W. T. Clyde, Leland and Robert Hougland, of the Underwood Canning Co.; Emmett Everitt, Matt Hougland and Paul Fishback, of the Scottsburg Canning Co., Joseph S. and Ivan Morgan, of the Austin Canning Co., and John R. Hougland, of the Vienna Canning Co., will attend the National Canner's Association at Boston, Mass., this week.

Amos N. Richey, of Finley township, contemplates moving to Arkansas.

Zoah:  Miss Garnett Murphy visited her cousin, Miss Fern Everitt, at Scottsburg, Thursday.  Miss Everitt is confined to her home with measles.

Ray No. 6:  Miss Anna Davis, daughter of the late Robert Davis, was recently married at Noblesville to Robert Cottingham, an electrician.  Little William Strouse spent the past week with his grandmother, Mrs. Louis Jones, while his mother attended the wedding of her cousin, Miss Allah Everitt to Jacob Bell, April 17.  They will reside at Cicero.

Zoah:  Miss Edith Murphy has returned to Indianapolis after a week's visit with her parents, S. H. Murphy and wife.  Jno. W. Murphy, of Austin, visited the families of S. H. Murphy and Hallie Faris, Sunday.

Charles Everitt, of Indianapolis, was here Thursday on his way home from Sheffield, Ala., where he has been engaged in government work.

June 5
Emmett Everitt returned last week from a business trip in the South.

Miss Edith Murphy, who has been employed at Indianapolis for the past year and a half, returned last week to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Murphy, near Zoah.

Miss Halcy Hughbanks has resigned as stenographer for the Scottsburg Canning Company and J. O. Scott has accepted a position as bookkeeper for the company.  Emmett Everitt will take over the duties of sales manager relinquished by Mr. Fishback.

Zoah:  Miss Edith Murphy visited the first of the week with her aunt, Mrs. C. T. Hooker, at Cortland.  Miss Edith Murphy, who has been working at Indianapolis, is visiting her parents, S. H. Murphy and wife.

Underwood:  Mrs. Jessie Everitt and son, Herbert, of Indianapolis, are visiting her parents, R. B. Jones and wife.
 

June 12
Odd Fellows To Dedicate Service Flag.
In honor of quite a number of members who are now in the army and navy Scottsburg Lodge No. 555, I. O. O. F., will soon dedicate a service flag.
The members of this lodge who are now in service, and in whose honor the flag will be dedicated are as follows:  In The Army...W. Thomas Everitt...

Thomas Everitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rose Everitt, of near Vienna, enlisted in the army last week.

Frank H. Everitt and family motored to Franklin, Sunday.  Frank says the pleasure trip was somewhat lessened by the occurrence of four tire punctures.

Mr. and Mrs. John Craig, of near Vienna, were each assessed fines of $1 and costs Saturday by Justice Lyman Clark on pleas of guilty to assault and battery on O. E. Everitt.  Mr. Everitt will answer to a charge of provoke before Justice J. C. Wilson.  The case grew out of trouble started when a cow belonging to Craig got into Everitt's cornfield.

Zoah:  Miss Edith Murphy visited Mrs. Geo. Barfus at Scottsburg, Thursday.  M. P. Watts and wife, of Seymour, visited S. H. Murphy and family, Sunday afternoon.  John Murphy and wife, of Austin, spent Sunday with his parents, S. H. Murphy and wife.
 

June 19
Miss Velma Everitt returned last Wednesday from Glendale, O., near Cincinnati, where she had been attending school.

Mrs. Herman Everitt and son have returned from Texas, where they have been with Mr. Everitt.

Zoah:  Miss Garnett Murphy is suffering from poisoning of the face and hands.  S. H. Murphy visited his son, John W. Murphy, and family at Austin, Thursday.  Miss Edith Murphy spent Saturday and Sunday with M. P. Watts and wife at Seymour.  Miss Edith Murphy returned to Indianapolis, Sunday, after three weeks' visit with her parents, S. H. Murphy and wife.  While playing in a sand pile with some other children one day last week, Elwin, son of B. B. Lawson and wife, suffered a severely cut foot on a piece of glass.

Underwood:  Louis Collins, Jess Collins, Ed Collins and wife, Ade Collins and wife, Flora Jones and Mrs. Jessie Everitt attended the funeral of their uncle, Hector Jones at Scottsburg Thursday.
 

July 3
Last week Judge Robert Creigmile appointed Frank H. Everitt as a member of the county Council of Defense to succeed Paul Fishback, who resigned when he moved to Greenwood.

Last week Thos. H. Everitt bought three calves of James O. Cooley, of Finley township, for which he paid $163.80, being $54.60 each.  Mr. Everitt has been shipping stock for over forty years and this is the highest price he ever paid for veal calves.

During the show of "The Kaiser, the Beast of Berlin," at Crothersville, Monday night to a packed house a film exploded, setting fire to the building and caused a stampede in which several persons were knocked down and trampled, but none seriously injured.  A small child of Stanley Hartley was burned severely and many others were burned slightly.  A chemical engine soon extinguished the flames and there was little damage to the building.

July 10
In Justice J. C. Wilson's court yesterday Eugene Everitt was fined $1 and costs for provoking John Craig, of near Vienna.

Zoah:  Mrs. Burney Reed and Miss Garnett Murphy were at Austin, Friday.  Mrs. B. B. Lawson and two children and Miss Garnett Murphy visited their sister, Mrs. A. L. Frickey, Sunday.

Ray No. 6:  Harve Richey and Floyd Robbins and wife went to Louisville, Wednesday, bringing home Mrs. Kate Robbins from the hospital.  She is doing fine.
 

July 17
Frank H. Everitt has purchased a new Hudson Super-Six auto.  Mr. and Mrs. Everitt and John M. Montgomery departed Sunday for Detroit, Mich., to drive the car home.

Zoah:  John Murphy, of Austin, visited his parents, S. H. Murphy and wife, Sunday.  T. J. Everitt and wife, of Scottsburg, visited his sister, Mrs. S. H. Murphy, Saturday.
 

July 24
Emmett Everitt, D. M., W. T. and Clyde Hougland were at Louisville, Friday.

Frank Everitt and son, Edward, and S. B. Wells motored to Louisville, Friday, in Mr. Everitt's new Hudson Super-Six.

Zoah:  Mrs. B. B. Lawson and children visited Mrs. John Meadors at Scottsburg one day last week.  Mrs. Jesse Howell and little daughter, Mary, of Thomastown, visited S. H. Murphy and family Sunday and attended church.
 

July 31
Emmett, Thomas H. and Jesse Everitt, W. L. Hubbard, and W. M. Foster attended the North Vernon fair Friday, going over in Emmett Everitt's auto.

T. H. Everitt and family, Clyde and Leland Hougland and families motored to Clifty Falls, Sunday.

Ray No. 6:  There will be an ice cream supper at Ed Jones's Saturday night, Aug. 3.

Zoah:  John Murphy and family, of Austin, visited his parents, S. H. Murphy and wife, Sunday.

August 14
Ray No. 6 (Intended for last week):  Mrs. Ed Jones and Mrs. Amos Richey were called near Zion, to the bedside of their sister, Mrs. Leora Hobbs, who was seriously ill but is better at this writing.

Zoah:  Mrs. S. H. Murphy and daughter, Miss Garnett, visited Mrs. A. L. Frickey, at Little York, Sunday.  Beorge Barfus, of Chicago, Mrs. Barfus and W. M. Foster, of Scottsburg, accompanied by their niece and nephew, Miss Mary and Master Claude Foster, of Chicago, called on S. H. Murphy and family Sunday afternoon.
 

August 21
Zoah:  B. B. Lawson was at Thomastown the first of the week on business.  Fred Ray visited his cousin, Mrs. A. L. Frickey, at Little York, Thursday.  Mrs. S. H. Murphy visited her daughter, Mrs. A. L. Frickey, at Little York one day last week and also her new granddaughter, born to Mr. and Mrs. Frickey.
 

August 28

September 4
John Murphy and family, of Austin, spent Sunday with S. H. Murphy and family.  Miss Edith Murphy, of Indianapolis, spent Sunday and Monday with her parents, S. H. Murphy and wife.  Misses Garnett and Edith Murphy called on Daniel Johnson and Albert Fricke and families at Little York, Sunday afternoon.  Mary, the little daughter of B. B. Lawson and wife, fell from a buggy Sunday afternoon and sustained a severe cut on the forehead.

Ray No. 6:  Harrison Murphy sold three mules to a man near Noblesville and delivered them, H. B. Littell taking them in his truck.  They visited Lon Everitt and family while there.  Mrs. Blanche Nunamaker and little son, of Indianapolis; Lon Everitt and family, Jacob Bell and wife, Mandevall Meadors and family, of Noblesville, visited relatives here and attended the fair.  Mrs. Rebecca Murphy accompanied them home for a two weeks' visit and to attend the Applegate reunion at that place.
 

September 11

Zoah:  Miss Garnett Murphy visited Mrs. George Barfus at Scottsburg, Saturday.  Frank Murphy sold his fine team of horses to Noah Tash, of near New Chapel, Saturday.  Mrs. S. H. Murphy and daughter, Miss Garnett, visited Noah Tash and family near New Chapel, Sunday.
 

October 9
Guy Ringo, the popular clerk at Frank Everitt's grocery, was able to be in the store Monday for the first time in a week, due to Spanish influenza.

Zoah:  John Murphy, of Austin, visited his parents, S. H. Murphy and wife, Saturday night and Sunday.
 

October 16

Mrs. Emmett Everitt and two sons visited the latter part of the week with her mother at Jeffersonville.

Underwood:  Matt Hougland and Emmett Everitt, of Scottsburg, visited the factory one day last week.

Zoah:  S. H. Murphy, wife and daughter, Miss Garnett, visited her daughter, Mrs. A. L. Frickey, at Little York one day last week.

Ray No. 6:  Work was received here Saturday night that Mrs. Lon Everitt was very low with stomach and bowel trouble following Spanish influenza.  The whole family with the exception of Mr. Everitt has been afflicted with the influenza.
 

November 6
Mrs. Hattie Hanger slipped on the stairs at her home over Frank Everitt's grocery one afternoon last week and fell the full length of the stairs to the street door...

The office of County Treasurer T. H. Everitt was the busiest place in town Monday, the last day for paying the fall installment of taxes without penalty.  A large number of people always wait until the last minute to pay their taxes with the result that there is always an unnecessary crush on the last day.

Fred Everitt came home Sunday on a four-day furlough from Ft. Riley, Kan., to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. H. Everitt.

Zoah:  While cutting wood for Will Napper, Monday, B. B. Lawson cut his foot.  B. B. Lawson and children visited Mrs. A. L. Frickey at Little York, Sunday.  John Murphy and family, of Austin, visited Hallie Faris and family one day last week.  Several men gathered at the home of Mrs. Anna Everhart, Friday, and cut her a supply of wood for the winter.  They also gathered at B. B. Lawson's the first of the week.

Miss Edith Murphy, who is employed at Indianapolis, came down Saturday and went to Zoah to visit over Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Murphy.

Mrs. Oliver Smith visited at Noblesville last week with Mrs. Lon Everitt, who is quite ill.

Frank H. Everitt, the grocer, now has an auto delivery truck.  Guy Ringo will act as chauffeur.

Mrs. William T. Hougland is visiting her sister, Mrs. Lon Everitt, who is ill, at Noblesville.

Mrs. Frank Everitt has been quite ill with influenza.

Red Cross Officers Elected.

The annual election of the officers of the Scott County Chapter American Red Cross was held Wednesday evening, Nov. 20.  The new officers are as follows:

December 4
Herman Everitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Everitt, who is at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Tex., is in a hospital there suffering from an attack of influenza.

Zoah:  Misses Fern Everitt and Hazel Cathcart, of Scottsburg, visited Miss Garnett Murphy, Sunday.

Zoah:  A. L. Frickey, of Little York, was calling on S. H. Murphy one day last week.  John W. Murphy, of Austin, visited his parents, S. H. Murphy and wife, last Wednesday.

Ray No. 6:  The children of Amos Richey have the flu.  Mrs. Belle Davis and Mrs. Mary Vest have moved from Noblesville to Anderson.
