The Everitt Memorial Cemetery is located in Vienna Township, Scott County, Indiana. This one square acre plot of land was originally part of a 40 acre tract purchased in 1832 by William C. EVERITT from William SPARKS. Although the land has changed hands on numerous occasions since that time, it has always remained in the family. The cemetery was deeded in 1987 to the EVERITT Cemetery Association by the descendants of James Edgar EVERITT, grandson of William C. EVERITT.

The earliest known burial in this cemetery is that of Mary C. (LEWELLEN) EVERITT, wife of William C. EVERITT. She died of measels in May of 1860 and family tradition asserts that she was buried here. The burial of her infant grandson, William T. WHITSON followed in this cemetery within two months and is confirmed by a headstone. The cemetery is still occasionally used and an effort is underway to divide the unused west half of the cemetery into plots for future use.

The exact location of the burial of William C. and Mary C. (LEWELLEN) EVERITT within the cemetery is unknown as no headstones are known to have been placed. In 1998, headstones were ordered by Thomas Benjamin EVERITT to honor his great-great-grandparents and the stones were placed in May, 1999 at a location near the center of the cemetery where Tom had been told by a member of an earlier generation of the family to be the gravesites of William and Mary. Other older living family members believed the graves to have been farther north of this location and recalled two graves at an angle to the others that were believed to be their graves. The placement of these stones should be viewed as memorials to this pioneer couple, and not necessarily grave markers.
