The History of Chesterfield states William Potter, born 3 Dec 1778, son of Barnabus and Mary Potter. William was in Waterford, VT in the 1800 census and St. Johnsbury, VT in 1820. The family moved to Barnston, Quebec, Canada around 1824/5 which is a few miles from the Vermont border and remained there for about 10 years. Mary: In August 1834, William Potter purchased land in Washington Twp., Erie, PA. Although no probate file exists, William apparently died in the Spring of 1837. His estate sale was 13 May 1837, filed 12 Nov 1844, Docket #11944. Mary Potter was listed as head of household in the 1840 Erie Co. Census and was living with her son, Bethuel, in the 1850 census. She is not found in 1860 so aparently died between 1850-60. Children:

The book, Descendents of Nicholas Potter lists William's wife as Mary Lang. There is also a marriage between a William Potter and Mary Sutherland on 1 Sep 1831 in Whitby Twp. witnessed by Daniel Dearborn and Edward Potter. This is possibly a second marriage for William.

No further referenced is found in the file after 1929. At that time she would have been about 86 and likely had died. She was living in Lone Rock, Richland, WI at the time.
