bullet  General Notes:

According to a decendant, there is a story of Vincent being in the town of Patesville, which is in Hancock Co. Kentucky next to Breckenridge Co and Grayson Co, maybe to visit his sister Nancy who lived there at that time and is this decendants grandmother. He went into the general store and while taking care of his purchases, someone ran in the store with a message for him. It seems that a drunken man had come into town shouting for Vince Turpin and swearing he was going to kill him. Vince stepped outside and here came the drunk swinging a knife at him. Vince pulled his own knife and ended the scene with what was an effective abdominal slash. Someone rode for the Sheriff who listened to the story and refused to ride out from Hawesville to Patesville. He said it sounded like self defense to him and besides, the victum needed killing anyway.

There is a John Turpin who enlisted in the Confederacy on Aug 20th 1862 in Co B, 10th Calvalry Regiment Kentucky. This is in a book published in 1915 of the Confederate Kentucky Volunteers in the Civil War 1861-65. No one is sure if this is John Vincent.
