Notes for THOMAS JACKSON STEPHENS:

Thomas moved with his father, James Stephens' to Shelby County,Indiana,then back to

Greene County,Pennsylvania,and then to Monongalia County,WVA,where he got married.

The couple then  moved to North Fork Hughes River area of Ritchie County,WVA,in 1840.

Several land transactions are recorded in Ritchie County,WVA.

In 1850 Ritchie County Census and living there.

Thomas is in 1870 Doddridge County Census and the 1880 Marion County Census.

He lived with his son Simeon near Metz,Marion County until his death.

Mahala was living with grandson Simeon when she died,and roads were so muddy they

buried at East Finley,Pennsylvania rather than beside her husband.

 

James Stephens, Thomas's father moved to Shelby County,Indiana in early 1830's,where he

bought a section(640 acres)of land and gave 160 acres to Thomas,then he got rid of the rest of

land and moved back to Greene County,Pennsylvania,and thenmoved to Monongalia County,West Virginia.

Edward "Edda"  Kenneth Way was born out of wedlock on February 29,1892 (Leap Year)

born in Meeker,Tyler County, West Virginia.

Edda was raised by his grandparents Mary Ellen Weekley & John Francis Stephens along with his cousins that were still pretty small.

A Short Story: Maggie came back for Edda when he was small about 5-6 years old, but her

husband gave her a choice:  him or her child, so Maggie brought back Edda to his grandparents.

She already had two other little ones by her husband when he gave her the option !!

It's believed  Edda never saw Maggie again.
