     Marcellus Houghton was born on 21 September 1819 in Hallowell, Kennebec County, Maine. He was the son of Rev. Josiah Houghton and Joanna Richards.¹ Marcellus built the dwelling next east to the meetinghouse in Winthrop to replace an earlier one.¹

He married Catherine Charlotte Fogg on 25 November 1841.¹

The census of 1850 shows Marcellus Houghton, age 29, a farmer; living with Samuel Fogg, 60 and Charlotte Fogg, 56, of NH, living at Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.²

The census of 1860 shows Marcellus Houghton, 40, a farmer with $4000 real estate and $1000 personal estate, and Catherine C. Houghton, 37, listed with Josiah Houghton, Melvina Wetherby, Marcellus H. Houghton, George E. Houghton, Catherine A. Houghton and Marietta Houghton living at Harvard P.O., Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.³

The census of 1870 shows Marcellus Houghton, age 50, a table manufacturer, with $6000 real estate and $5000 personal estate, living at Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.⁴

The census of 1880 shows Marcellus Houghton, a farmer, and Catherine C. Houghton, listed with Herbert L. Houghton and Eugenia G. Houghton living at Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁵

He died on 17 December 1895 in Medford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at age 76.

     Margaret P. Houghton was born in 1872 or 1873 in New Hampshire.¹ She was the daughter of Marcellus Howard Houghton and Caroline Parker.¹ The census of 1880 shows Margaret P. Houghton in the household of Marcellus H. Houghton and Caroline E. Houghton, at Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.¹

     Marietta Houghton was born on 15 September 1858 in Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Marcellus Houghton and Catherine Charlotte Fogg. The census of 1860 shows Marietta Houghton, 2, in the household of Marcellus Houghton and Catherine C. Houghton, at Harvard P.O., Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.¹

She married John Frank Turner Jr. on 15 May 1879 in Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.²

The census of 1900 shows John Frank Turner Jr., age 42, banking, and Marietta Houghton, 2 children, 1 living, listed with Arthur S. Turner living at Lexington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.³

     Mary Houghton was born on 1 June 1797 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. She was the daughter of Major Jonathan Houghton and Rachael Hale.

She married Levi Howard on 2 April 1812 in Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.¹

     Mary A. Houghton was born in 1842 or 1843 in Maine. She was the daughter of Lewis Willard Houghton and Mary Ann Nourse.

     Mary Ann Houghton was born on 3 June 1820 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. She was the daughter of Deacon Henry Houghton and Melinda Bryant. She was baptized on 3 August 1834 in Windham, Cumberland County, Maine.¹

She married George W. Plummer in 1839.²

The census of 1850 shows George W. Plummer, 35, a farmer with $1500 real estate, and Mary A. Plummer, 29, listed with Irene G. Plummer and Melinda Houghton Plummer living at Waterford. Also in the household were Elizabeth Plummer, 71; and Francis E. Goodnow, 11.³

The census of 1860 shows George W. Plummer, 45, a farmer with $3000 real estate and $800 personal estate, and Mary A. Plummer, 40, listed with Melinda H. Plummer, Irene G. Plummer and Sophia Plummer living at Waterford. Also in the household were Daniel W. Bunker, 16, a farm laborer; and Elizabeth Plummer, 81.⁴

The census of 1870 shows George W. Plummer, 55, a farmer with $3000 real estate and $2105 personal estate, and Malinda Plummer, 50, keeping house, listed with Nettie Plummer living at Lovell P.O., Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. Also in the household were John Bryant, 14, a farm laborer; and Susan Haskell, 70.⁵

The census of 1880 shows George W. Plummer, 65, a farmer, and Mary A. Plummer, 59, keeping house, listed with Alton O'Brion and S. Nettie O'Brion living at Waterford.⁶

She died in 1895.⁷

     Mary Elizabeth Houghton was born on 29 April 1834 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. She was the daughter of Capt. Luther Houghton and Ruth P. Jewett. The census of 1850 shows Mary E. Houghton, 16, attending school, in the household of Luther Houghton and Mary Houghton, at Waterford.¹

     Mary Ettie Stone Houghton was born on 14 December 1856 in Maine.¹ She was the daughter of Levi Howard Houghton and Elizabeth Robbins. The census of 1880 shows Mary A. Houghton in the household of Ira A. Newell and Luella Francis Houghton, at Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.¹

She married Edward Knowlton.

     Maude Alice Houghton was born on 19 March 1878 in Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine.² She was the daughter of Charles Ansel Houghton and Alice Frances Soule.¹

     Melinda Bryant Houghton was born on 16 August 1825 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. She was the daughter of Deacon Henry Houghton and Melinda Bryant. She was baptized on 3 August 1834 in Windham, Cumberland County, Maine.¹

     Melvina Houghton was born on 23 November 1817.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. Josiah Houghton and Joanna Richards.¹

She married Charles H. Nourse on 17 October 1842.¹

She married David Henderson in 1849.²

     Myrtle Houghton was born in March 1889 in Minnesota.¹ She was the daughter of Abel Howard Houghton and Laura E. Winslow. The census of 1900 shows Myrtle Houghton in the household of Abel H. Houghton and Laura Houghton, at Fair Haven Township, Stearns County, Minnesota.¹

     Nancy Reed Houghton was born on 15 August 1836 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. She was the daughter of Lewis Willard Houghton and Mary Ann Nourse.

She died on 26 March 1838 in Waterford, at age 1.
