The census of 1860 shows Josiah Houghton, 16, at school, in the household of Marcellus Houghton and Catherine C. Houghton, at Harvard P.O., Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.2 He was killed in the Battle of the Wilderness on 12 May 1864 in Chancellor, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, at age 18.1

He became a Baptist minister, and was settled in Turner and in Winthrop, Me.1 Between 1815 and 1822, Rev. Josiah Houghton was pastor of the East Redfield Baptist Church, Readfield, Kennebec County, Maine.2
