     Josiah Houghton was born on 25 July 1845 in Maine.1 He was the son of Marcellus Houghton and Catherine Charlotte Fogg. The census of 1860 shows Josiah Houghton, 16, at school, in the household of Marcellus Houghton and Catherine C. Houghton, at Harvard P.O., Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.2 He was killed in the Battle of the Wilderness on 12 May 1864 in Chancellor, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, at age 18.1

     Rev. Josiah Houghton was born on 16 March 1790. He was the son of Major Jonathan Houghton and Rachael Hale.

Rev. Josiah Houghton was originally a cabinet-maker, but left his trade early and studied for the ministry. He became a Baptist minister, and was settled in Turner and in Winthrop, Me.1 Between 1815 and 1822, Rev. Josiah Houghton was pastor of the East Redfield Baptist Church, Readfield, Kennebec County, Maine.2
As of 1816, Josiah lived at East Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.2

He married Joanna Richards on 2 January 1817.2 He was active in building the Baptist meeting house in at Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine, in 1823.2
As of from 1823 to 1829, Josiah lived at Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts, . He was afterward secretary of the Baptist Home Missionary Society for Maine. He is said to have been "a man of talents, of fine address, and highly useful in the ministry."1

He married Lona Richards on 23 August 1823 in Winthrop.3

He died on 22 May 1838 at age 48.2

     Lewis Willard Houghton was born on 1 June 1806 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. He was the son of Major Jonathan Houghton and Rachael Hale.

Lewis Willard Houghton was a physician. He was graduated from Bowdoin Medical College in 1832, and settled in Waterford, where he was a leading citizen for many years. He was town clerk from 1837 to 1841, and selectman in 1850. He removed to Windham and afterward to Naples, Me.1

He married Mary Ann Nourse on 8 June 1833 in Waterford.

He died in 1870 in Naples, Cumberland County, Maine.

     Capt. Luther Houghton was born on 27 December 1808 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. He was the son of Abel Houghton and Elizabeth Green.

1825 a second company of cavalry was formed in Waterford, and Luther Houghton, who shared the military spirit with his ancestors, was the last captain of the organization. Luther Houghton was a member of the Congregational church at Waterford Flat, and for forty years led its choir.

Capt. Luther Houghton was a tavern-keeper and farmer. He married Ruth P. Jewett.

He married Mary Hale, daughter of Oliver Hale and Eunice Fletcher, on 29 September 1846 . They were first cousins once removed.

The census of 1850 shows Luther Houghton, 41, a landlord with $1200 real estate, and Mary Houghton, 47, listed with Mary E. Houghton, Hellen M. Houghton and Henry L. Houghton living at Waterford.2

He died on 15 May 1880 at age 71.
