     Emma Howard was the daughter of John Day Howard and Matilda J. Towne.¹

     Emma Augusta Howard was born on 14 August 1821 in Massachusetts.^2,3 She was the daughter of John Day Howard Jr. and Sophia Hinckley.¹

She married William Lysander Legg in 1839.²

The census of 1850 shows William L. Legg, 36, a dyer, and Emma A. Legg, 29, listed with Charles A. Legg, Wm. H. Legg, Luther O. Legg and Frederick L. Legg living at Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts.⁴

The census of 1860 shows Wm. L. Legg, 45, a farmer with $2000 real estate and $350 personal estate, and Emma A. Legg, 38, listed with Charles A. Legg, Wm. H. Legg, Luther E. Legg, Frederick L. Legg, Emma E. Legg, Jennie L. Legg and Gertrude A. H. Legg living at Auburn, Worcester County, Massachusetts.³

She died on 31 December 1888 at age 67.²

     Ephraim Howard was born on 19 April 1798, son of Benjamin Howard.²

Ephraim Howard of Bridgewater married Lydia Cary of Bridgewater, daughter of James Cary and Hannah Alden, on 24 June 1821 in the Fourth Church of Christ in Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church, Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts . (Intention not recorded.) She was his first wife.^3,2

He married in 1837 Hannah Finney, daughter of Captain Seth Finney, of Plymouth, as his second wife. They had five children, and she died 1 Sep 1862.²

     Fanny Bixby Howard was born on 28 November 1853.¹ She was the daughter of Darius Howard and Ellen B. Broadhurst.¹

     Frederic Howard was born about November 1810.² He was the son of Darius Howard and Huldah Cary.¹

He died on 16 April 1812, at 17 mos.² He was buried in North End or Ashland Cemetery, North Bridgewater (now Brockton), Plymouth County, Massachusetts.¹

     Frederick Howard was born on 14 February 1815.¹ He was the son of Darius Howard and Huldah Cary.¹ He was baptized on 1 September 1816 in the Fourth Church of Christ in Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church, Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.²

He died after 1866, single.¹ He was buried in North End or Ashland Cemetery, North Bridgewater (now Brockton), Plymouth County, Massachusetts.³

     George E. Howard was born in October 1846 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.^1,2 He was the son of Samuel Howard and Anna E. Hovey. The census shows George Howard, 14, at school, in the household of Samuel Howard and Anna A. Howard, at Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.³ The census of 6 June 1870 shows George E. Howard, 24, a fancy goods dealer, with $500 personal estate, in the household of Samuel Howard and Anna A. Howard, at Boston Highlands, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.⁴ According to A Twentieth century history and biographical record of Crawford County, Kansas, in 1871 , George E. Howard moved to at Crawfordville, Crawford County, Kansas, but this is in conflict with the listing of the 1870 census. Here he opened a general store, which he conducted about a year, and then, Girard having been started and made the county seat, he followed the general exodus and moved his business to that place, which was two miles and a half away. Later he engaged in the grain business, and for three years was bookkeeper for the Bank of Girard, which was the first bank in that town.¹

He married Phoebe W. Playter in 1876 in Girard, Crawford County, Kansas.¹

The census of 1880 shows George E. Howard, George was an express agent and commission merchant. Also in the household was Jenny Rhodes, 19, from Kentucky, and Phoebe W. Howard, listed with Blanch Howard living at Girard.⁵ In 1883 George E. Howard was elected captain of Company D, First Kansas Regiment.¹

On 2 January 1887 George E. Howard was promoted from captain to major in the Kansas National Guard, Company D of Girard.⁶ In 1889, George E. Howard moved to Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas At first he was in the grain and feed business, and afterwards engaged in dealing in real estate and in general financial affairs.¹

In 1890, George E. Howard was secretary of the Pittsburg Water Supply Company.¹

The census of 1895 shows Geo. E. Howard, 48, born Mass, occupation: real estate & teach [? illeg.], and Blanch Howard, 16, born Kansas, attending school. Also in the household were Sarah Moore, 20, born Kansas, a housekeeper; Geo. Playter, 23, born Kansas, a coal operator; Clarence Playter, 17, born Kansas, a clerk and bookkeeper; and C. J. Hurt, 23, born Missouri, a motorman living at Pittsburg.⁷

The census of 1900 shows George E. Howard, 53, a boarder, a commision merchant, married 19 years, father of 4 children. He was in the rented home of Frank A. Truax, born Nov 1870 in Iowa, a freight agent; and two housekeepers, Artia Truax, 18; and Lizzie Johnson, 36, both , Kansas natives, living at 207 East 8th Street, Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas.²

The census of 1905 shows G. E. Howard, 58, a renter, not on a farm, born Massachusetts, a real estate dealer. He was listed as having served in D Co., 42nd Inf., and had been honorably discharged from the military. Living with him was Blanch Howard, 24, born in Kansas, a teacher living at Pittsburg.⁸

     Harriet Howard was born on 27 March 1782 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Samuel Howard and Anne Lillie.

She married Samuel Prescott Phillips Fay on 31 July 1803 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

She died on 27 July 1847 in Cambridge, at age 65.
