He married Janet Howe on 13 October 1823 in Waterford, . They had no children.
Joseph lived at Waterford Flat, Oxford County, Maine.1

The census of 1850 shows Joseph Hale, with $900 real estate, living at Waterford.

The census of 1860 shows Joseph Hale, 63, a shoemaker with $1200 real estate and $500 personal estate, and Jeanette Hale, 58 living at Waterford.2

The census of 1870 shows Joseph Hale, 73, a shoemaker with $2,000 real estate and $400 personal estate, and Janette Hale, 68, housekeeper living at Lovell P.O., Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. Also in the family was Hannah B. Howe, 68, housekeeper from Massachusetts.3

The census of 1880 shows Joseph Hale, Joseph was a shoemaker and farmer. Also in the household was a boarder, Hannah B. Howe, 78, from Massachusetts., and Jeanette Hale living at Waterford.4

He died on 21 October 1884 in Waterford, at age 87. He was buried in Elm Vale Cemetery, Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.

Joseph Hale was a prominent and influential man in Byfield Parish and attained to the dignity of "Prof." as well as "Capt."3 He was the son of Capt. Joseph Hale and Mary Moody.2 He and Mary Noyes published their marriage intention on 1 May 1736.1

He married Mary Noyes on 8 May 1736.4

He died on 9 March 1776 at age 63 "very suddenly."3

     Joseph Hale was born on 9 February 1728/29 in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Edmund Hale and Martha Sawyer.1 He moved to Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts, in 1734 with Edmund Hale and Martha Sawyer . This land was set off by running of new State line into Plaistow, N. H. in 1741, and again set off into Atkinson on formation of that town.2

He married Abigail (Smith) Wise widow of William Wise of Plaistow about 1751 or early in 1752.2



He was a leading man in his town and was commissioned by the Royal government of the province 15 Dec 1772, coroner of the county of Rockingham. On the breaking out of the Revolution and through it he was a zealous patriot, sending
his sons into the service and following the elder with supplies immediately after the alarm at Lexington.2 He moved to Alstead, Cheshire County, New Hampshire probably not till after beginning of Revolutionary war, perhaps not till after its close (probably before 1782).2

He died on 6 June 1814 in Alstead, at age 85.2

On 8 Apr 1779, he was appointed guardian of Joseph, son of his uncle Rev. Moses of West Newbury, then near 16 years old. (Prob. 53: 215.).3 Deacon Joseph Hale was born on 8 January 1742/43 in Byfield Parish, Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Capt. Joseph Hale and Mary Noyes.2

He married Mary Northend on 19 November 1765 in Byfield Parish, Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.1

He and his wife were "admitted to own the covenant" in Byfield church 24 May 1767.1

On 20 Dec 1769, he, Joseph Hale, Jr., of Newbury, yeoman, took deed from Benjamin Colman and wife Anne of Newbury, of 32 acres of land in Newbury, bounded northerly on Capt. Joseph Hale, etc. (126: 246).

On a date not given, Joseph Hale of Newbury, and wife Mary, conveyed to Edward Longfellow of Newbury, yeoman, two parcels of land in Newbury, 6¼ and 6½ acres (139: 145).3

He took letters of administration on his father's estate 2 Apr 1776.1

He was admitted to the church (probably full admission) 27 Oct 1776. His wife had been admitted earlier.1

He died on 25 December 1818 in Byfield Parish, Newbury, at age 75.1

He made his will 10 Oct 1818, in which he describes himself as Joseph Hale of Newbury, merchant,proved 2 Feb 1819, and provides for his wife Mary, and children Mary Parish, Daniel and Joseph; Daniel and Joseph to be executors. Testator's grandson Joseph to have the silver cup or tankard. The inventory was filed by Daniel, sole surviving executor, 26 Sept 1820, showing personalty valued at $6,726.30, and real estate (including homestead in Byfield, $5,250) valued at $6,058 (96:107; 97: 270-273).4

     Joseph Hale was born on 15 March 1756.1 He was the son of Rev. Moses Hale and Mehitable Dummer.1

He died on 8 February 1760 at age 3.1
