He was the first Beacon Hill Appleton to arrive in Boston. He went to Boston as a young man, and gave his two younger brothers and his first cousin William a chance to become merchants.
Sam took a special interest in Isaac Appleton Jewett, only child of sister Emily, and in Samuel Appleton, his namesake and brother Eben's oldest son.2
Samuel Appleton , of Boston was a merchant.1 He was born on 22 June 1766.3 He was the son of Deacon Isaac Appleton of New Ipswich and Mary Adams of Concord, Mass.
He married Mrs. Mary (Lekain) Gore , known as "Aunt Sam" in 1818 . They had no children.2
He died in 1853.4
