Eugene lived at Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine. He was a member of the National Monetary Commission.
Eugene Hale was a senior member of Hale & Hamlin Co., and an attorney for Hancock Co. for nine years.

He was born on 9 June 1836 in Turner, Androscoggin County, Maine. He was the son of James Sullivan Hale and Betsey Staples.1
In 1857, Eugene Hale was admitted to the bar.
Between 1867 and 1868, Eugene Hale was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He received an honorary A.M. degree in 1869 from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Cumberland County, Maine.
Between 1869 and 1879, Eugene Hale was a member of the 41st to 45th Congresses.
He married Mary Douglas Chandler on 20 December 1871.
In 1874, Eugene Hale was appointed Postmaster General by President Grant, but declined.
About 1879, Eugene Hale was tendered a naval portfolio by President Hayes, but declined.
In 1880, Eugene Hale was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The census of June 1880 shows Eugene Hale, a lawyer, and May C. Hale, listed with Chandler Hale, Fred Hale and Eugene Hale living at Ellsworth.2
Between 1881 and 1911, Eugene Hale was U.S. Senator. He received his LL.D. degree in 1882 from Bates College, Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine. He received LL.D. degree in 1886 from Colby College, Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine. He received LL.D. degree in 1896 from Bowdoin College, Brunswick.
He died on 27 October 1918 in Washington, D.C., at age 82. He was buried in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine.
