Robert Safford Hale wrote: "Enoch was an upright and conscientious man, but lacking in energy, and his life was not a successful one by any worldly standard. He was at one time possessed of a fair property, probably by inheritance from his father, but lost it through the chicanery of others, and by his own lack of shrewdness and management, without any evil or immoral habits on his own part. The daughters were estimable and excellent women, of whom Mrs. Marsh speaks in terms of high praise as to the three whom she knew - Sophia, Marcia and Lucia."³

     Eren T. Hale was born in 1838 or 1839 in Massachusetts.¹ He was the son of Elbridge Gerry Hale and Lucy H. Bursley.¹ The census of 1850 shows Eren T. Hale in the household of Elbridge G. Hale and Lucy Hale, at Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.¹

     Esther Hale was born on 1 December 1785 in Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Israel Hale and Esther Taylor. She was baptized on 16 April 1786.¹

She married Moses Howe on 23 August 1810 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. The census of 1850 shows Esther Hale in the household of Betsy Howe and John E. Farwell, at Bethel, Oxford County, Maine.

     Esther Hale was born on 3 May 1774 in Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts.¹ She was the daughter of Ambrose Hale and Mercy Daby.¹

She died on 11 October 1811 in Grafton, Windsor County, Vermont, at age 37 unmarried.²

     Esther E. Hale was born on 19 March 1845 in Maine.^1,2 She was the daughter of Sumner Hale and Harriet Shackley.¹

She married Charles P. Welch on 16 January 1868.¹

The census of 1880 shows Charles P. Welch, There is no indication that anyone in the household was employed, and Ester E. Welch, listed with Nellie H. Welch and Daniel T. Welch living at Cambridgeport, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.²
