After finishing his studies at Gardiner Lyceum, he entered a large wholesale store in Portsmouth, and a few years later opened a store himself in Saco, which he abandoned after the decease of his grandfather, Col. Josiah Little, to look after the large landed estate left to his father's family. In 1836 he settled on a large farm in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont.1 Edward Hale was born on 8 November 1805.1 He was the son of Thomas Hale and Alice Little.1
He married Elizabeth L. Wigglesworth on 30 January 1837 as her second husband.1
He died on 3 October 1886 in Newbury, at age 80, without issue.1

He was professor of Materia Medica in Hahnemann College, Chicago, for eighteen years; in Chicago Homoeopathic College for five years, and author of the following text books:
Materia Medica and Therapeutics of New Remedies, two volumes, five editions.
Diseases of Women, one volume, three editions.
Diseases of the Heart, one volume, three editions.
Compendium of Health, one volume.2
He married Abba Ann Wilson George on 13 October 1852 in Jonesville, Hillsdale County, Michigan.3
As of 1889, Edwin and Abba lived at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.4
