     John Appleton of Buxton, Maine was baptized on 26 December 1742.1 He was the son of Isaac Appleton and Elizabeth Sawyer , daughter of Francis Sawyer of Wells, Maine.

He settled on lands granted in 1730, to the officers and soldiers engaged in the Narragansett fight. He left no issue.1

     John Sparhawk Appleton was born on 13 March 1775. He was the son of John Appleton.

John Sparhawk Appleton was a bookseller in Salem and Boston, was a good deal of an antiquary, and collected many of the materials for the Genealogical Notices. The plates of the churches in Great and Little Waldingfield were obtained by him. He was a writer of wit and pungency in the columns of the Salem Register.1

He married Mary Lander.1

He died on 20 December 1824 at age 49.
