     Francis Randall Appleton was born on 5 August 1854 in New York, New York County, New York. He was the son of Daniel Fuller Appleton and Julia Randall.

He attended private schools, and was fitted for college in Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, He was graduated from Harvard College, in the class of 1875, and from the Columbia Law School, in 1877, and was admitted to the bar in New York in 1877. He practiced his profession in New York City for several years. From 1884 to 1910, when he retired, he as a member of the firm of Robbins & Appleton, agents for the Waltham Watch Company. His winter home was in New York. His summer home was on the old homestead at Ipswich. He was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, and was an overseer of Harvard College during 1903-1909. In politics he was a Republican; in religion, an Episcopalian.1


He married Fanny Lanier on 7 October 1884 in Lenox, Berkshire County, Massachusetts.1

He died after 1912.

He married on 13 April 1861 in Boston, Arrobina Julia Tobie of Poland, Maine, as his first wife.1

He married Helen Mary Edson, daughter of John Morton Edson and Mary H. Stevens, on 17 April 1872 in Boston, as his second wife.1

He married on 25 June 1879 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, Maria W. Vinal, as his third wife.1

He died on 30 November 1913 in 188 Broadway, Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at age 74, of chronic interstitial nephritis.1

He died on 31 August 1922 in Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, at age 83.1

     Harriet Appleton was born in 1830 or 1831 in Allenstown, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.1,2 The census of 1850 shows Harriet Appleton in the household of Philip C. Alexander and Mary A. Alexander, at Holyoke, Hampden County, Massachusetts.3

She married Geo. W. Alexander, son of Philip C. Alexander and Mary Ann Taylor, on 10 September 1851 in Holyoke, by Rev. Asahir Chapin.2

The census of 1860 shows George W. Alexander, 30, a wadding manufacturer with $200 personal estate, and Harriet Alexander, 26, listed with Edgar Alexander and Lilly Alexander living at Spruce Ward, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania.4

The census of 1870 shows Geo. W. Alexander, 40, manufacturing cotton laps, with $300 personal estate, and Harriet Alexander, 37, listed with Adjar Alexander, Lillie Alexander and Nettie Alexander living at Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania.5

The census of 1880 shows Geo. W. Alexander, 50, working in a hat factory, and Hattie Appleton, 49, housewife, with fever and ague, listed with Lily Alexander and Nettie Alexander living at West Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania.1

She died on 12 October 1896 in Reading.6
