     Mary Elizabeth de Bade was born in 1789 or 1790 in Paris, France, within sight of the Tuileries. She was a lady of social refinement and worth—a "most charming woman." (She had three brothers, unmarried, in the French army.) When she came to Rowley, she had very little ability to speak English, and her natural sensitiveness or diffidence on account of the inability, confined her almost exclusively to her immediate family.1

She married Nathaniel Mighill Perley, son of John Perley and Hannah Mighill of Rowley, about 1814.1

She died 27 Sep 1855 or 1854 of dysentery, in the family of her husband's brother John, where her later years were spent.1

She married John Barnard Swett, son of Samuel Swett and Lucia Gray.1

The census of 1860 shows John B. Swett, 38, a farmer with $6000 real estate and $1000 personal estate, and Anne C. Swett, 35, listed with Elizabeth G. Swett living at Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island. Also living there was a domestic, Mary Kelly, 27, from Ireland.3

She died on 8 January 1891 at age 66.1
