Ellen F. Connely was born on 15 January 1915 in New York, New York County, New York, the daughter of Timothy F. and Margaret (Sommers) Connelly. Mrs. Colby graduated from Boston Clerical School.1 Before marrying William Colby, she was married to Mr. Farrell and Mr. Shields.1 In 1949, Ellen F. Connely moved to Peterboro, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire She had worked as a paymaster and bookkeeper at the New Hampshire Ball Bearing Co. for 25 years before retiring in 1977. Following her retirement she moved to Inverness, Florida, where she lived until 1999, when she returned to Peterborough.
She was actively involved as a volunteer for Hospice and Senior Focus.1
She married William Ira Colby, son of Willaby Colby and Luella Webber, as her third husband.1
She died on 2 January 2003 in Monadnock Community Hospital, Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, at age 87.1
