She married Capt. Sargent Colby, son of Samuel Colby and Sarah Partridge, on 4 July 1822 in Dunbarton, . They were 2nd cousins.3,2

The census of 1850 shows Sargent Colby, 50, a farmer with $2,000 real estate, and Ruth Colby, 48, listed with Horace S. Colby, John Colby, George Colby, Caleb S. Colby, Mary J. Colby, Lousia M. Colby, Frank Colby, Edward H. Colby, Sarah A. Colby and Matthew W. Colby living at Dunbarton. Also in the household was Mary Cass, 75.4

The census of 1870 shows Sargent Colby, 70, a farmer with $2,000 real estate and $800 personal estate, and Ruth A. Colby, 67, keeping house, listed with Charles Colby, George Colby, Ann Colby, Henry Colby, Mary J. Colby, Emma Colby and Eliza Colby living at Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.5
At her son's marriage 24 November 1870, she was described as follows
     Ruth A. Colby.6



The census of 1880 shows Ruth A. Colby, a housekeeper, listed with Sims Colby, Charles W. Colby, Ellen Colby, Willard M. Colby and Sarah E. Colby living at Dunbarton.7

She died on 29 December 1881 in Dunbarton, at age 78.2,8,9 She was buried in Stark Cemetery, Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.8

Samuel Colby is mentioned in the marriage record of Irvin A. J. Colby and Clara L. Hale on 28 January 1873 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.12


The census of 1880 shows Samuel Colby and Louisa A. Philips, listed with George D. Colby living at Manchester.13
He died of heart failure on 8 January 1892 or 15 January 1892 in his son's home, Derry, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.14 He was buried in Valley Cemetery, Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.

Samuel Colby was a farmer at Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.1 He was born on 22 July 1776 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.2 He was the son of Thomas Colby and Susanna Colby. He appeared on the census of 1 May 1791 in the household of his parents, Thomas Colby and Susanna Colby, at Bow, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.3

He married Sarah Partridge about 1797.4,5

  • 1 male, 16 to 26 years [probably Samuel]
  • 1 female, 16 to 26 years [probably Sarah]

The census of 1810 shows Samuel Colby living at Bow.7

He died on 2 April 1815 in Dunbarton, at age 38.4,1
