The census of 1860 shows Hiram Thurston, a shoemaker, and Honora C. Thurston, listed with Melissa J. Thurston, Waldo F. Thurston and Hiram Thurston living at Wayland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.¹

He married Helen Belle Colby, daughter of Judson Adnirom Colby and Helen Franklin, on 6 March 1909 in Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.² In addition to Helen Irene Collins, they had three other children.

He died on 13 January 1955 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, at age 67.¹ He was buried on 17 January 1955 in Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana.¹
