     Nathaniel Colby was born on 28 July 1798 in Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.2 He was the son of Archelaus Colby and Jemima Johnson.1

He married Hepsibeth Woodbury, daughter of Hazadiah Woodbury Jr. and Hepzibah Colby, on 2 August 1827 in Dunbarton, . They were fourth cousins.3 He and Moses W. Woodbury were members of about 1847 The Methodist Society was formed.4

The census of 1850 shows Nathaniel Colby, Nathaniel was a farmer with $2,000 real estate. His sons Albert and James were also farmers, and Hepsibeth Woodbury, listed with Albert W. Colby, James Colby, Elizabeth A. Colby, Nathaniel Colby, Lyman W. Colby and Moses N. Colby living at Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.5 Said to be "a respectable, well-to-do farmer," he was elected selectman several times, and in 1851 was reurned to the Legislature.6

He died on 22 March 1872 in Dunbarton, at age 73.7 He was buried in East Dunbarton Cemetery, Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.8

     Nellie J. Colby was born on 9 November 1866 in Goffstown, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.1,2 She was the daughter of Francis O. Colby and Carrie Farley.1 The census of 1880 shows Nellie J. Colby in the household of Francis O. Colby and Carrie Colby, at Goffstown.3

She married Lafayette S. Lakeman on 22 April 1891 in Goffstown.4,2 In 1897, Nellie J. Colby and Lafayette S. Lakeman were living with Nellie's parents, Francis & Caroline Colby.4

She died on 4 February 1902 at age 35.
