James Cary was born on 22 April 1766 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.¹ He was the son of Dea. Jonathan Cary and Mary Curtis. He was baptized on 27 April 1766 in the Fourth Church of Christ in Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church, Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.²

He married Hannah Alden on 30 May 1798 in the Fourth Church of Christ in Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church, Brockton . (Intention not recorded.) She was his first wife.³

He married Hannah Wales on 5 June 1803 in the Fourth Church of Christ in Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church, Brockton , as his second wife. (Intention not recorded.).³

He died on 10 August 1850 at age 84.⁴

James Cary was born on 28 March 1652 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.¹ He was the son of John Cary and Elizabeth Godfrey.

He married Mary Shaw of Weymouth.²

He married Mary Standish . There is some controversy over whether James Cary had two wives, or if the two Marys are the same person. If they are two people, it is unknown which was the mother of any of James' children.

He died in 1706 in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island.¹
