Isaiah Wood1
b. 3 July 1773, d. about 1832
Isaiah Wood was born on 3 July 1773 in Middleboro, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, son of Moses and Lydia (Waterman) Wood.1
Isaiah Wood was a farmer in his young manhood and school teacher, exercising the office of the latter very successfully.1
He married Rebecca Perley, daughter of Amos Perley and Rebecca Hovey, on 6 January 1799 in Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.1 Isaiah Wood moved to Anson, Somerset County, Maine right after marriage, when it was practically a forest.1 On about 1805 his name was changed to Moses Wood in order to avoid mistaken identity (there being another Isaiah Wood), but he was always remembered in the family as Isaiah.2
He died about 1832 in North Anson, Somerset County, Maine.1

- M. V. B. Perley, History and Genealogy of the Perley Family, Salem, Mass.: Published by the Compiler, (1906) , p. 150. The book seems to say that his son Isaiah's name was changed at the same time, but his son wasn't born until 1815. It also says that the name change was made "only a few years before his death," so I suspect that the year 1805 may be wrong.
