Lyle White Stewart

Lyle White Stewart was born on 14 October 1916 in Burton, Monongalia County, West Virginia. He was graduated from Marietta College with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and then took three years of graduate study in geological engineering from the University of Oklahoma at Norman. He was employed at United Carbon, Inc., where he was a staff geologist 11 years and area manager of exploration for four years. He then was an independent consultant for oil and gas exploration in the Applachian Basin for five years. He then founded and was chairman of the board of Appalachian Exploration, Inc. near Port Washington. He was an Army Air Corps vetern of World War II and a member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 44 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Canton, and the American Assn. of Petroleum Geologists, Ohio Geological Society, Appalachian Geological Society, and Ohio Oil and Gas Assn.1
He married Helen Elizabeth Cundiff, daughter of William Cundiff and Jessie Myrtle Morris, on 21 December 1941. In 1962 or 1963, Lyle White Stewart moved to North Canton, Stark County, Ohio from Charleston, W.Va.1

She married James Colby, son of Willaby Colby and Sarah Sargent, on 24 June 1790 in Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.1,2 On 2 November 1790 Susannah Stewart bought thirteen acres with a barn on Wood Hill, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, from John Sulloway, the blacksmith.1 In 1791 Susannah Stewart and James Colby bought twenty acres with a house. The buildings stood about halfwayfrom the height where the "liberty pole" stood, to the wall south, on the westerly side of the road.1

He married Mehitable Perley, daughter of Nathaniel Perley and Mehitable Perley, on 27 June 1793 . Their home was in East Boxford, Essex County, Massachusetts, and the house was recently (as of 1906) standing on its original site in the woods in front of Capt. Samuel Kimball's.1
