     Joseph Swett was born on 25 August 1754.¹ He was the son of Samuel Swett and Anna Woodbury.¹

He married Jane Curtis, and left no children.^1,2

He died on 2 February 1819 at age 64.¹

     Joseph Swett of Marblehead is the son of John Swett and Bethiah Page , daughter of Thomas Page.¹

      Joseph Swett moved to Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts.¹ He was born in 1657 or 1657.¹ He was the son of Stephen Swett and Hannah Merrill.¹

He married Hannah Devereaux about 1688 as her third husband.¹

On 16 Dec 1710, Joseph Swett, cordwainer, of Marblehead, and Hannah his wife, deeded all their property to their son, Joseph Swett, Jr., cordwainer, of Marblehead.¹

In 1734, Joseph Swett of Marblehead drew a lot in Amherst, NH, "for his brother Stephen Swett." This was Joseph Swett, Sr., then 77 years old. These lots in Amherst were given to veterans of King Phillip's War or their closest male heir.¹

     Joseph Swett Jr. was the son of Joseph Swett and Hannah Devereaux.¹ He was baptized on 25 August 1689 in Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts, an only child.¹

Joseph, under the guidance of the Rev. Mr. Barnard of Marblehead, by whom he was styled "a young man of strict justice, great industry, enterprising genius, quick apprehension and firm resolution, but of small fortune," became the founder of a temporary commercial prosperity of Marblehead, which town subsequently paid one of the highest taxes in the Colony, and was one of the principal ports on our New England coast.² On 16 Dec 1710, Joseph Swett, cordwainer, of Marblehead, and Hannah his wife, deeded all their property to their son, Joseph Swett, Jr., cordwainer, of Marblehead.¹

He married Ruth Parker.¹

He married Martha A. Stacy on 13 September 1725.¹

He married Hannah Negus on 23 September 1734.¹

There is an old tradition that the daughters of Joseph Swett were great beauties, somewhat like the Seven Stars of the Chandler family. Certainly, Copley's portrait of Mistress Martha Lee shows that she was a beautiful woman.³

He died in 1744 or 1745, 55 years old. His will, dated 20 March 1744 and probated 16 April 1745, names wife Hannah, sons Joseph and Samuel, and five daughters: Ruth wife of John Hooper, Hannah wife of Joseph Lemmon, Martha Swett, Sarah Swett, and Rebecca Swett.¹

On 12 January 1744/45, Joseph Swett Jr. was Justice of the Peace.⁴

     Joseph Swett was born about 1700 (year interpolated as fifth child). He was the son of Capt. Joseph Swett Esq. and Hannah Warde.¹

He married Hannah Sayward and lived in York, York County, Maine.¹

     Joseph Swett was born on 16 August 1739.¹ He was the son of Jonathan Swett and Jane Rowe or Row.¹

He married Jemima ---(?)---, and probably settled in Waterboro, York County, Maine.¹

     Joseph Benjamin Swett was born on 15 January 1841 in Massachusetts.^1,2 He was the son of Henry Jackson Swett and Elizabeth Brown.¹ The census of 1850 shows Joseph Swett, 10, attending school, in the household of Henry J. Swett and Elizabeth Swett, at Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts.²

He married Emily Caroline Gilson.¹

He died on 6 January 1924 at age 82.¹

     Joseph Benjamin Swett Jr. was born on 5 March 1865.¹ He was the son of Joseph Benjamin Swett and Emily Caroline Gilson.¹

He died on 3 October 1897 at age 32.¹

     Joseph Coolidge Swett was born on 7 March 1829.² He was the son of Tasker Hazard Swett and Elizabeth Boyer Coolidge.¹ On 23 May 1851 his name was changed to Joseph Swett Coolidge by act of legislature.¹

He married Mary Louisa Coolidge on 7 November 1851.²

He died on 1 March 1887 at age 57.²

     Josiah Swett was born on 20 December 1741 in Hampton Falls, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.¹ He was the son of Jonathan Swett and Jane Rowe or Row.¹

He married Prudence Dodge on 10 January 1765 and lived in Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts.¹

Josiah Swett was a revolutionary soldier.¹ Later, Josiah Swett and Prudence Dodge moved to Campbell's Gore, later called Windsor, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.¹

He died on 26 December 1808 in Claremont, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, at age 67.¹
