Hastings Strickland was born on 18 August 1768 in Nottingham, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, son of Rev. John and Patty (Stone) Strickland of Turner, Me.1

He was wealthy and one of the most active and influential men in his section. He had a fine physique and commanding appearance. He was a Democrat and Universalist, and contributed liberally to both causes.1
He married Patty Monroe on 30 September 1821.1
He died on 4 March 1886 in Livermore, Androscoggin County, Maine, at age 89.1
