     Abby M. Short was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.1 She was born on 31 March 1843 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.1 She was the daughter of William P. Short and Selenda McCawley Colby.

She married Josiah Harrison Sargent in 1863.2 The census of 1870 shows Abby M. Sargent, 27, without occupation, in the household of William P. Short and Selonda M. Colby, at Bow.3

She married Caleb Austin Colby, son of Jesse Colby and Sally Persis Austin, in 1879 . They were third cousins. His first and second wives were 2nd cousins of each other.4

The census of 1880 shows Caleb A. Colby, 53, a farmer, and Abby M. Colby, wife, 37, keeping house, listed with James E. Colby and Addie L. Colby living at Bow.5

She died in 1920 in Bow.2 She and C. A. Colby were buried in Alexander Cemetery on River Road, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, in the same plot with Addie L. Colby and Frank Henry Colby.6

She died on 15 November 1770 at age 88.2

From 1890 to 1892, George W. Short was on the board of education.1

William P. Short was a conductor on the Boston & Lowell Railroad.1 William lived in the Lower Bog district.1 He was born in 1812 or 1813 in Vermont.2

He married Selonda M. Colby, daughter of Philip Colby and Hannah Bailey, on 13 March 1839 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.3

In 1866, William P. Short was elected to the legislature.1

The census of 1870 shows William P. Short, 57, a farmer with $5000 real estate and $2400 personal estate, and Selonda M. Colby, 53, keeping house, listed with George W. Short, Harriet A. Short, Sarah W. Short, Stickney F. Short, Josiah H. Sargent, Abby M. Sargent and Minnie B. Sargent living at Bow. Also living there were Frederick Drown, 18, a farm laborer from Maine; and Mary Wheeler, 24, a teacher from New York.2

The census of 1880 shows William P. Short, 67, a farmer, and Salenda M. Colby, wife, 63, keeping house, listed with George W. Short, Harriet A. Short, Sarah W. Short, Stickney F. Short, Maggie M. Short and Henry M. Short living at Bow.4

He died on 7 March 1882 in Bow.1 He and Salenda M. Colby were buried in Alexander Cemetery on River Road, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.5
