Elijah Rawson was born on 5 February 1716 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He was the son of David Rawson and Mary Gulliver.
He married Mary Paddock about 24 February 1743 in Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
Edward received land grants to supplement his salary and among them, deeded to him on Jan. 4, 1749 was 500 acres lying between Marlboro, Lancaster, and Worcester. Rawson Hill was in the grant and Cold Harbor Brook ran through it. This homestead was sold Jan. 4, 1792.
In Jun 1762, Sep 1765 and May 17, Elijah Rawson was elected Justice of the Peace in Warren, Bristol County, Rhode Island. In May 1766, Elijah Rawson moved to Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts and lived in a home called 'Rawson Place.' on what is now Rte. 140 on the outskirts of the northeast section of town.
The Shrewsbury Worcester County, Massachusetts census of 1790 shows Elijah still residing in that town with '8 females(heads) 1 other' and '3 males under 16 yr.', it is felt may be his son David's children who he left in Mass. when he started his long journey towards Virginia, Now West Virginia. In 1792, Elijah Rawson moved to Pittstown, Rensselaer County, New York.
He died on 2 March 1795 in Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, New York, at age 79.
