Data from Ed(win) Chesney (see Luther MIX for ads), 17 May 1994. He also sends:

'National Archives--- Warren, Washinton Co., Vermont, ss....this is to certify that I Nancy Burbank of Warren Vermont Washington County depose and say that in 1864 or 1865 that said Destig? From same: 'The 1860 census of Warren Township, Washington Co., Vermont has the following:
1000/1018 Albert P. Davis age 33, male, born Vermont
Susan Davis age 26, female, born Vermont
Ada Davis age --, ------, born Vermont
Dustin Mix age 13, male, born Vermont [probable De Estines]
Ira Putnam age 74, male, born Vermont'

Thus it appears, if Dustin is De Estines (Dan S?), that when Luther MIX died between 1850 and 1860, this son went to live with Albert P. Davis.
From same: 'DeEstings S. Mix was in the Civil War, He was in Co. A 8th Vermont Vols. His wife filed for a pension and those papers were examined briefly by me [i.e., Edwin Chesney] at the Archives in Washington D.C. My notes are brief one line sentences such as follows:
