Oliver Hale Mason was for several years treasurer of the town of Bethel, Oxford County, Maine.1 Oliver Hale Mason was first active in business Berlin Falls, Berlin, Coos County, New Hampshire.1 He was born on 22 April 1830 in Bethel. He was the son of Ayers Mason and Eunice Hale. He was graduated from Gould Academy.2
In 1850, Oliver Hale Mason was Farmer. at Bethel.3
He married Alma Frances Connor on 29 May 1856.
In 1861 Oliver Hale Mason was a member of the militia.2
Between 1861 and 1862, Oliver Hale Mason was selectman.2 He was a member of Bethel Lodge, No. 97, and on its first board of officers elected under the charter, also an officer 1862, 1863, 1864, 1865, and in 1890 his name was on the list of members in good standing.2
In 1864, Oliver Hale Mason was town clerk at Bethel.2 Bethel Town Records show Oliver Hale Mason married Olive Milissa Lee on 1 December 1865 in Bethel.4 Capt. Hugh Mason Genealogy states that Oliver Hale Mason married Olive Milissa Lee on 7 December 1865 in Vernon, Windham County, Vermont,, and that they were married by Rev. H. B. Butler.2
Oliver Hale Mason was a capable and successful businessman, and interested in timber and lumbering. He was one of the founders of The Bethel Savings Bank in which he held the offices of treasurer and president successively.1,2 He was said to have been the first to use mineral coal in Bethel 1873.2 He he took a prominent part in the centennial celebration of Bethel August 1874.2
The census of 1880 shows Oliver H. Mason, Oliver was a merchant, and Olive M. Mason, listed with Alice G. Mason and Leslie L. Mason living at Bethel.5 He suffered greatly from articular rheumatism, rendering him nearly helpless for years.1 He was much involved in the sucess of the Universalist Church, and left it a
legacy of $1000.1
He died on 20 February 1891 in Bethel, at age 60.2
