     Elaine S. Levine was born on 5 October 1935 in Massachusetts.¹ She was the daughter of Isidore R. Levine (born Israel Zlochefsky) and Clara Ramler. She married Meguerditch Abraham Jamgotchian. Shortly after their marriage, Elaine received inheritance money from her mother's or father's estate and she spent it on taking a trip to Lebanon with her husband, to Beirut to see his family. They lived there for several years. While living in Lebanon, Elaine learned to speak both Armenian and Arabic.²
