Shortly after their marriage, Elaine received inheritance money from her mother's or father's estate and she spent it on taking a trip to Lebanon with her husband, to Beirut to see his family. They lived there for several years. While living in Lebanon, Elaine learned to speak both Armenian and Arabic.2

Justus Lyman was born in February 1825 in Easthampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, son of Elisha W. and Laura A. (?) Lyman.1,2
In 1864, Justus Lyman was a soldier.3
He married Lois P. Alexander, daughter of Philip C. Alexander and Mary Ann Taylor, on 13 February 1864 in Easthampton, by Rev. E.B. Foster, pastor of the Cong. Ch.3
The census of 1900 shows Justus Lyman, 65, a farmer, and Lois A. Lyman, 60, listed with Mary V. Lyman, Frank E. Lyman, Louise M. Lyman, Madiline T. Lyman and Justus W. Lyman living at Easthampton. Also in the household was James Flynn, 33, from Ireland.1
The census of 1910 shows Justus Lyman, 75, a dairy farmer, and Lois Pearl Lyman, 70, listed with Mary Lyman, Frank E. Lyman, Louise Lyman, Madeline Lyman and Justus Lyman living at Florence Street, Easthampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Also in the home were two hired men, John Bryl, 36; and Jos. Stachnik, 18; both from Austria.4
