He married Philena W. Swan, daughter of Daniel T. Swan and Aurelia Colby, about 1855.1

The census of 1880 shows Thomas Leland, Thomas and his father-in-law Daniel Swan were farmers. His son Elmer was a telegraph operator, and Filena Leland, listed with Elmer F. Leland, Harry Leland, Alvah H. Leland, George Leland, Daniel T. Swan and Arvilla Swan living at Pajaro, Santa Cruz County, California.2
