Hannah Ladd was born on 7 May 1787 in Maine.¹

She married Jonathan Colby, son of Jonathan Colby and Martha Alexander, on 24 June 1819 in Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.²

She died on 19 October 1855 in Dunbarton, at age 68.¹ She was buried in Dunbarton Center Cemetery, Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.³

She died on 25 October 1834 at age 51.¹

Benjamin W. Lake was born in July 1873 in New Hampshire.² He was the son of Henry G. Lake and Emily Cates.¹ The census of 1900 shows Benjamin W. Lake, Edessa's nephew, 16, a farm laborer, in the household of Abel B. Parker and Edessa M. Parker, at Chester, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.³

He married Bertha Maude Clay in 1903 or 1904.⁴

The census of 1910 shows Benjamin W. Lake, a general farm laborer, and Bertha M. Clay living at Main Street, Atkinson, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Also living with them was Benjamin's father-in-law, Charles H. Clay, 62 and listed as married for 40 years, a laborer at odd jobs, and a niece, Althea M. Clay, 6 years old.⁴

The census of 1920 shows Benjamin W. Lake, a farm laborer, and Maude B. Lake, listed with Marion F. Lake living at Main Street, Atkinson. Also in the household was Nenjamin's father-in-law, Charles H. Clay, 71, and still listed as married.⁵
