We had the opportunity to visit the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward. They have several exhibits of the assorted marine life in Resurrection Bay. The touch pool was great. We touched sea stars, sea slugs, anemones, snails, crabs and other marine creatures. They have an 1800 pound male Steller Sea Lion - we could watch him swim underwater. There was also a Harbor Seal, female sea lions used in research and many seabirds. They have several Pacific Octopuses (?) Octopi(?) and they were so fascinating! This is not a big aquarium; it is actually a research, rehabilitation and education facility. They try to return orphaned critters to the wild if at all possible, and that means they are not on display where they will become accustomed to humans.
We also took their "Behind the Scenes" tour and saw where they do a lot of their research. We saw an octopus that was laying eggs! I think I managed to get some neat photos of some fish and other critters. (SMILE)
Check out the Alaska SeaLife Center online when you get a chance.
Here are several of my photos of the creatures at the Alaska Sealife Center for you to enjoy.
