University of Alaska Museum "At the University of Alaska Museum you have the opportunity to see genuine artifacts of Alaska's fascinating and dynamic human and natural histories. On public display are many treasures from this great land: a mummified steppe bison that predators killed 36,000 years ago; fossilized dinosaur bones from the northernmost region of Alaska; actual nuggets of gold found in soils near Fairbanks; beautiful original paintings, ancient Eskimo ivories and impressive Indian totem poles. A giant Kodiak grizzly bear and many other native animal exhibits are also here for your viewing. This is an excellent museum."

Large Animal Research Station - Musk Ox and Caribou Farm "LARS is administered by the Institute of Arctic Biology, University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). The station was created in 1979 to establish a colony of muskoxen that would be available for nutritional, physiological and behavioral research, and to provide a location close to the university where research could take place on large wild ungulates in captivity."

Alaskaland Park Entrance

"Alaskaland, a park and exhibit center commemorating the Centennial of the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. Opened in 1967, it has many historic exhibits from Fairbanks and the surrounding areas, as well as a civic center, Gold Rush Town, playgrounds, picnic areas, Alaska Salmon Bake, Palace Theater and Saloon, Dance Center, miniature golf and the Lindy Lou carousel."

Some more of the Alaskaland exhibits are: Riverboat S. S. Nenana "This is the only original wooden sternwheeler left in Alaska, one of only 15 sternwheelers left in the entire United States and one of only two wooden-hulled sternwheeled steamboats in the world. The river boat, S. S. Nenana, is one of the main attractions in Alaskaland. The S. S. Nenana plied the Tanana River from Nenana to the large village of Tanana on the Yukon River, and from there to the community of Eagle on the upper Yukon or to the village of Marshall on the lower Yukon. The villages and the river are depicted in miniature by the world's largest diorama on the cargo deck of the restored and drydocked boat."

Riverboat S. S. Nenana

Pioneer Air Museum "Alaska's air history is rich and exciting. The Great Land's frontiers were being explored just as the early pilots and explorers were testing the frontiers of flight. It was an inspiring time. Housed in the beautiful gold dome, designed by Buckminster Fuller, the museum's rare and unique collection of over 500 photographs chronicle early flight and the brave men and women who ventured into the unknown. Displayed are memorabilia, and the personel records of pilots famous for daring adventure. Also shown are 14 actual aircraft and one of the largest piston engine displays ever assembled. A remarkable display of air history." Pioneer Museum and The Big Stampede "At the Pioneer Museum you will get a taste of Frontier Alaska, where Sourdoughs carved a livelihood from the wild, beautiful, and sometimes harsh land. Preserved and displayed here are artifacts and photos demonstrating their hard work, daily life, and recreation." "The Big Stampede, complementing the Museum, vividly displays the rigors of our Gold Rush trails. This dramatically lighted 45 minute presentation, illustrated by fifteen enormous oil paintings by famed Alaskan artist C. R. "Rusty" Heurlin and narrated by Poet Laureate Ruben Gaines, shows the hardships of the search for gold and the subsequent settlement of the future Forty-ninth State."

Gold Rush Town Pioneer Museum and the Big Stampede

The Wickersham House "The first Historical Monument of the State of Alaska, a small museum devoted to the life and times of Judge Wickersham. An authentic recreation of the early days in Fairbanks." Whiskey Island and Crooked Creek Rail Road "Alaskaland currently has an operating gas-powered 0-4-0 replica locomotive, The Whiskey Island and Crooked Creek RR, 3 ft gauge; approximately 1 mile trackage encircles the park."

A Walk Through Early Fairbanks Northern Lights Photosymphony A wonderful presentation using music and the photography of Leroy Zimmerman. Ester Gold Camp Historic Malemute Saloon "Robert Service would feel right at home here. Entering the Malemute Saloon is like stepping in to the turn-of-the-century gold rush era. You expect to see Dan McGrew leaning on the oaken bar, with the lady who’s known as "Lou" sharing the piano bench with the stranger from the creeks!"
